Carbon-14 uptake experiments for the measurements of primary production are carried out as described here: http://calcofi.org/references/ccmethods/266-art-prodo.html. After the incubation 10 ml SW are removed from the incubation bottles and filtered through GF/F filters, the filtrate is frozen and further processed ashore. Ashore, the samples are acidified, and 5ml sample and 15 ml scintillation cocktail are combined and counted. Carbon-14 incorporation into the dissolved phase is counted from these data.
